Meet Our Team

The overall team of Living Alternatives Pregnancy Resource Center is comprised of both paid staff and volunteers. Living Alternatives currently has 44 paid staff to provide leadership and oversight over our many volunteer teams. Each team member plays a vital role and meets an important need. Working together, we strive to meet the Mission of Living Alternatives Pregnancy Resource Center.

Having worked in the organization since 2004, Sherry has been the Director of the Bloomington/Normal Center, Vice President of Client Services, and the CEO since 2009. The mother of three, Sherry currently worships at Pekin First Nazarene with her husband Scott.

Carolyn Rasch

Since 1988, Carolyn has served as a volunteer, Assistant Director and Director of the Champaign PRC, and as the CFO since 2010. Carolyn has been a member of the St. Joseph, IL community for over 30 years and worships with her husband of 42 years, Don, at Living Word Family Church where they have attended for 37 years. She is the proud mother of 4 and grandmother of 11.

Chief Operating Officer & Director of Merci's Refuge

Nate began as an intern in the Champaign PRC in 2008, mentoring men and couples along with his fiance at the time, Ashley. Nate later joined the Board of Directors and was hired as an Executive Director in 2011 after graduating with a Master’s in Social Work from the Univ. of Illinois. Nate, Ashley and their two sons, worship at the Salvation Army Church in Champaign.

Terri Lipscomb

Director of Development Officer

Terri Lipscomb has been a supporter of women and families for many years. She and her late husband helped to start and fund a Pregnancy Resource Center in Cleveland, Ohio in 1987. They adopted a son, Damon, 29 years ago through a Pregnancy Resource Center in Parma, Ohio. She now has a 5-year-old redhead granddaughter named Cali. In 2008 she began volunteering with the Champaign Pregnancy Resource Center to assist them in raising the necessary funds for their ultrasound program. Since then she has used her training and experience in organizing banquets and events to support the Pregnancy Resource Center in the 12 communities that they serve. In January of 2011 she accepted the position of Chief Development Officer and led the Captial Campaign to build Merci’s Refuge. She is having fun and feels privileged that she gets to serve!

Kim has been the Nurse Manager for the Champaign PRC since 2010 and has served as the Director of Nursing for Living Alternatives since January 2013. She was raised in Champaign and has made this community her adult home with her husband and 4 children. They are actively involved at their church, the Vineyard.

Kate Cox

Director of Marketing and Communication

Kate has been with the ministry since July of 2018. She has a degree in public relations & strategic communication from Olivet Nazarene University, where she graduated from in 2018. Born and raised on the southeast side of Michigan, Kate made her move to Illinois official upon entering the workforce after graduation. She has served as a Sunday School teacher, a Children’s Ministry volunteer, and completed a Marketing Internship at the Graduate School of Olivet Nazarene University. She currently resides in Kankakee County, IL.

Dr. Michael Smith, MD

OB/GYN

Dr. Smith has been practicing OB/GYN since 1987 and speculates he has delivered approximately 7000+ babies in his career. His credentials include being a Fellow of ACOG as well as certified by AIUM in ultrasonography. He has practiced in and around the Champaign, IL area and is often referred to as the “doc in the flowered shirts.”

Director of Post-Abortion Support

Laurie Haynes, Director of Post Abortion Support – Laurie began volunteering at the Bloomington PRC in 2002 as a client advocate. In 2008 she was excited to be able to put her nursing license to use as a volunteer nurse offering limited ultrasounds to her clients. Laurie is also passionate about coming alongside women and men who have experienced an abortion in their past and who need healing. She was on the founding team to start a Deeper Still chapter in IL and officially came on staff in May 2016 as Director of Post Abortion Support. Laurie is married to Todd and they have 2 grown children. They are actively involved at East White Oak Bible Church in Carlock, IL.

Kristen Lonberger

Director of Education

Kristen has a background in psychology, non-profit work with families, and community engagement.  Her passion is to empower and equip mothers and their support system with the knowledge necessary to be successful  She is determined to support each expectant mother and family unit with the love of Christ. Kristen has served for 15 years in ministry alongside her husband, Carlos, and together they have four sons and reside in Kankakee, IL.

Teresa Mathews

Teresa Mathews

Director of Adoption Support

Teresa serves at the Kankakee Center as the Director of Development and is the Director of Adoption Support. Her background is education, early childhood, and family science.  She has a passion for family, teaching, mentoring, and sharing God’s Word. Her prayer is the love of Jesus would be irresistible to all who enter the PRC. Teresa and her husband, Dane have partnered in church ministry for almost 30 years, and love parenting their college and high school children.
